Since 2014 Formula One drivers now select a permanent driver number which remains with them whilst they are active in Formula One.
The reigning Formula One World Champion can opt to race their driver number or switch to the number 1 to indicate that they are the champion.
2014 Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton has opted against taking the number one and will stick with his driver number.
