Sebastian Vettel kicked off the 2018 Formula One World Championship in winning style for Ferrari.

The four-time former champion rather fortitiously found himself leading the race following a Virtual Safety Car.

Ferrari team-mate Kimi Raikkonen had pitted first, which was strategically covered by Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton. Vettel stayed out on track and due to a stopped Haas, the VSC was deployed. During this neutralisation period of the race, Vettel was able to pit and stay out in front of Hamilton.

Despite a much faster car, Hamilton had little chance of regaining the lead on the Albert Park track.

You take it when you can get it. Little Lewis had plenty of laps to pass, but could not do it. Sad to see Williams rookie Sergey Sirotkin lose his brakes early and retire. A definite name for the future. Weather was good and the wind not bad at all.
