Sauber have signed Felipe Nasr to partner Marcus Ericsson for the 2015 Formula One World Championship.
The news of an all-new driver line-up at Sauber means that both Adrian Sutil and Esteban Gutierrez have lost their drives at the team and will be desperately trying to find a new seat to remain in Formula One.
22-year-old Nasr is a Brazilian driver who arguably ticks all the boxes for a team such as Sauber.
He is an upcoming talent, has reached this point in his career on talent having previously won the 2009 Formula BMW Europe and 2011 British Formula Three titles.
In 2013 he made the move into the GP2 series with Carlin, he finished fourth in his debut season, whilst this year he won four races en route to being pipped to the GP2 championship by British driver Jolyon Palmer.
He has also gained Formula One experience having featured in four Free Practice One sessions as Williams test driver.
Fortunately for Nasr he is also backed by big sponsors in the form of Banco do Brasil, who will become a major partner for Sauber with Banco do Brasil logos appearing on the sidepods and the rear wing of next seasons car.
?We have been following Felipe?s career path for some time now, and he fully deserves his position in Formula 1 having had a very successful career in junior categories,? Sauber team boss Monisha Kaltenborn said to Sky Sports.
?We are happy that he will be driving for our team next year. This means that Brazil will have one more young and talented driver in the sport. Banco do Brasil has been an important partner for Felipe so far, and we are delighted that such a renowned company is continuing to support him during this important step. We look forward to this partnership.?
Nasr added: ?It is a very important step in my career to sign with the Sauber F1 Team for the 2015 Formula One World Championship. This is an unforgettable moment that I owe to all of those who have supported me – my family, my friends, my sponsors, my teams and my country,’
‘Today the dream has come true. Sauber was responsible for the arrival in F1 of great names such as Felipe Massa, Kimi Raikkonen, Robert Kubica and Sebastian Vettel. I am proud now to also be part of this racing family. I had a wonderful year at Williams Martini, where I learned a lot and prepared myself to be a race driver in Formula One.?
