Nico Rosberg will claim his first Formula One World Championship in Abu Dhabi with a podium finish.
The German driver once again finished second to his Mercedes team-mate, the third race in succession that Mercedes have clinched a one-two finish in that order.
But since his victory in Japan, Rosberg has known that, that was all he needs to do.
The Red Bull of Max Verstappen, threatened to beat Rosberg for second in Brazil, but the young Dutchman gambled with the weather and a switch to intermediates. If it had worked, the youngster would probably have claimed his second race victory of his career, as it was though he handed second to Rosberg as he needed to pit again for the full wet tyre.
‘I can live with a second place, It worked out fine.’ Rosberg told Sky Sports after the race.
Both Mercedes drivers head to the finale of the 2016 season with a chance of clinching the title.
Both drivers are on nine Grand Prix victories this season, however only one DNF for Rosberg [the Spanish Grand Prix where he crashed with Hamilton], has left him 12 points better off.
In the press conference he added: ‘[Abu Dhabi’s] going to be a great, exciting race weekend, a great battle for sure. I would like to win the race and that?s what I?m going there… I?m going to try and do that for sure. I?ve had good experience there in the past but of course that?s not going to help this year. You know we all start from zero this year, every time we go to a different track. Yeah, feeling good so let?s see.
