Fernando Alonso has spoken to the media for the first time since the testing crash that hospitalised him.

And the Spaniard, who has been cleared by the FIA to race in this weekends Malaysian Grand Prix has rubbished many reports and rumours regarding his crash.

The former two-time Formula One World Champion has denied suffering severe memory loss after being knocked unconscious following the crash on February 22nd, which is currently under investigation by the FIA.

According to the Spanish media he was asked by doctors following his concussion, who he was, what did he do and what did he want to do in the future. Which he reportedly responded by saying: ‘I’m Fernando, I’m in karts and want to become Formula 1 driver,’

But Alonso has rubbished that rumour, speaking in the Formula One drivers press conference Alonso said: ‘I didn?t wake up in ?95. I didn?t wake up speaking in Italian. I didn?t wake up in all these things that probably were out there [in the media]. I remember the accident and I remember everything that following day.’

Regarding the accident itself, McLaren Honda made suggestions that the wind could have been a factor and denied reports of any problems with the car, whilst other media reports claimed that Alonso could have already been unconscious following an electric shock following a mechanical failure.

Again Alonso cleared these rumours up, although did contradict McLaren’s version of events by suggesting the incident was caused by a steering lock.

‘I remember on the Sunday morning all the set-up changes, all the lap times. Vettel was in front of me before Turn Three but cut the chicane to let me go exiting the pitlane and after the hit I was kissing the wall for a while and I switched off the radio first because it was on. Then I switched off the master switch for the batteries to switch off the ERS system just because I saw the marshals coming and if not they can’t touch the car. So I was perfectly conscious at that time.’

‘There is not anything clear in the data that we can spot and can say ?it was that? but definitely we had a steering problem in the middle of Turn Three that locked into the right. I approached the wall, I braked in the last moment, I downshifted from fifth to third and unfortunately on the data we?re still missing some parts,’
