Fernando Alonso hopes to score his first Formula One World Championship point for McLaren Honda at Monaco.
The Spanish driver was forced to retire from his home Grand Prix after his helmet visor had caused his rear brakes to over heat and ultimately fail.
Up until that point he was running reasonably well and looked like he was within a window to potentially secure a top ten finish.
The two-time Formula One World Champion hopes that form can be taken into the Monaco Grand Prix.
?I think we will get points in Monaco, [In Spain] our simulations until the retirement put us in ninth place, so [that] was already the first opportunity to get the points. In Monaco it will be the second.’ Alonso told Sky Sports.
Alonso believes McLaren Honda will continue to progress as the season develops, with the Spaniard aiming to be battling for podium finishes by the time the seasons climax draws near.
?From now on we will always be on the limit of the 10th place for the next two or three races. Hopefully after Austria we will be more secure ? seventh, eighth place I hope. That?s the target.?
He continued: ?The final part of the championship ? even if it?s a very ambitious target, I?m very optimistic – we need to be close to the podium positions, The improvements and the targets on the car are to do so, so we need to make sure we deliver that.?
