Lewis Hamilton is leading the Formula One World Championship for the first time in a calendar year.
The last time Hamilton had a points advantage over his rival was heading into the 2016 Singapore Grand Prix where he held the lead over Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg.
Following the Singapore Grand Prix however he trailed his team-mate and never overturned the deficit.
Hamilton will be hoping the same doesn’t happen in 2017, where Mercedes have been chasing Ferrari all season.
Back-to-back victories in Belgium and Italy, the first of anyone this season has given Hamilton a three point lead over Sebastian Vettel going into the next race.
‘It’s an empowering feeling, it’s been a real constant search and battle for perfection to overhaul Ferrari. Hamilton told Sky Sports.
‘These last two races have been very solid. I feel more heart and passion within myself, l have found more in myself in the last three or four races.
‘Silverstone was an empowering weekend and sparked a forest fire within me and hopefully that reflects in the way l am driving.’
