Jenson Button’s future in Formula One is in limbo, with McLaren yet to announce their driver line-up for the 2015 Formula One World Championship.

Neither 2009 Formula One World Champion Jenson Button nor current team-mate Kevin Magnussen have contracts beyond 2014 with McLaren.

With the switch from Mercedes to Honda next season, it has been widely discussed that the Japanese manufacturer would like a marquee driver for next season and there would appear to be a couple on the market.

Four-time Formula One World Champion Sebastian Vettel has announced his decision to leave Red Bull Racing. His new team is yet to be formally announced, but it is expected to be Ferrari and he’s expected to be driving alongside Kimi Raikkonen.

That would leave double Formula One World Champion Fernando Alonso without a seat next season, after speculation that his remaining two-year-deal with Ferrari has been cancelled by mutual consent.

It would seem the obvious choice for Alonso would be a return to McLaren, a team that he has been rumoured to have been holding talks with for well over a year, and yet no announcement seems forthcoming.

But hypothetically if Alonso does switch Ferrari for McLaren Honda next season, who will be his team-mate?

Will McLaren pair up Alonso and Button?
Will McLaren pair up Alonso and Magnussen?
or will McLaren change both drivers?

For Jenson Button, he’d be excited to work alongside the Spaniard.

‘For me, working with any driver up and down the grid, nothing scares me of working with a world champion, I’ve worked with two in the past – Jacques Villeneuve, when I was young, and with Lewis [Hamilton] for three years. Button told Autosport Magazine.

‘I’m not fearful of any team-mate, and I find it exciting learning new people and the way people work, because it’s not always what it might seem from the outside.’
