Caterham have confirmed their engine deal for next season and beyond.
Caterham as expected will continue to use Renault engines in for the next three years after signing a new Formula One deal with the French engine manufacturer.
The deal had been expected as Caterham and Renault also enjoy a partnership with the companies road car businesses with the Alpine brand.
‘This announcement is obviously very good news for our F1 team and is a reflection of the deep bonds that have been created between our two businesses since 2011, particularly with the roadcar project we launched in 2012 between Caterham and Alpine, which is now at an advanced stage in development,’ Caterham Team Principal Cyril Abiteboul said to Sky Sports.
‘The 2014 season heralds a new era for F1 with our sport taking a positive stance in aligning itself with the technical changes in the global automotive industry, and Renault is right at the cutting edge of that development.’
For next year there has been a lot of speculation regarding which engines team will go with next season due to the switch from 2.4-litre V8s to 1.6-litre turbos with enhanced energy recovery systems.
But apart from Toro Rosso dumping Ferrari engines to team-up with sister team Red Bull with Renault engines, Williams switching from Renault to Mercedes and Marussia leaving Cosworth for Ferrari, there hasn’t been much change up and down the paddock.
Ferrari as well as Marussia are expected to continue their partnership with Sauber, whilst also continuing as manufacturer for their own team.
Renault will continue to provide four teams with engines for 2014 with Red Bull, Toro Rosso, Caterham all signed, with Lotus expecting to re-join them.
Williams who had been powered by Renault will switch to Mercedes to join the Mercedes AMG team, Force India and McLaren.
While in 2015, Honda will re-join the Formula One grid with an already signed agreement with McLaren.
