Max Chilton has been promoted to reserve role by Marussia after competing in young drivers test back in July. Chilton did enough miles on the clock to become eligible for a super licence along with GP2 team-mate Rio Haryanto in the Marussia MR 01. On both those days, he was comfortably ahead of the Indonesian.

He has been driving his third consecutive GP2 series after having raced in the Asian series of it for three seasons since 2009. The ever improving Chilton made his debut in GP2 with Ocean Racing Technology before switching back to Carlin the next year. In fact, his most successful season in British F3 came with the latter.

Chilton has already tested in F1 for Force India at Yas Marina young drivers test in 2011 and taken part in the straight line testing as well.

With one win and five podiums Chilton finished fourth on his first British F3 season. From the last season, Marussia are partnering with Carlin in the feeder series to help reinforce its activities on the ladder racing.

He is having the best season so far stacking up ahead of Van der Garde by three points in fifth with the season finale yet to take place this week. He won a feature race at the Hungaroring this year and could be on for a race seat in the future after being named as reserve for the final six races.
