2014 Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton is set to lose his senior performance engineer.

51-year-old Jock Clear handed in his resignation to Mercedes immediately following the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix last month.

He is contractually set to work a 12-month notice period, but with a rumoured move to Ferrari to replace Pat Fry it looks more likely that he he is set for some extended gardening leave or a contractual agreement with Ferrari will be made.

Clear has been a mainstay at the team for 15-years having joined British American Racing in 1999. He has seen the team evolve into BAR, Honda, Brawn and Mercedes, winning both the drivers and constructors titles in 2009 and 2014.

Clear could be joined at Ferrari by Mercedes former technical director Bob Bell according to the BBC.

Bell left Mercedes in November after previously handing in his resignation in April.
