In seasons gone by, Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes appear to have held long protracted contract negotiations during various seasons.
The British driver, who claimed his fourth Formula One World Championship in 2017 is out-of-contract at the end of 2018.
He was briefly linked with a potential switch to Ferrari, but Sebastian Vettel’s long-term deal with Ferrari appears to have scuppered any chance of that happening.
That leaves Lewis Hamilton with no other competitive options, other than remaining with Mercedes.
With that clearly the case neither side appear to be in a desperate position to finalise a new deal, but equally neither side are overly concerned about it.
Last month Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff told Sky Sports: ‘We will start those discussions now,
‘I think it’s pretty obvious that we are the team of choice for Lewis and Lewis is the driver of choice for us. we have performed well together and l think we will want to continue for a few more years,’
It is believed that Hamilton could be in line to earn £120million if he agrees and signs a new three-year-contract.
‘I am really excited about continuing my journey with the team and continuing to improve.’
