Paul Di Resta has made it no secret that he wants to progress up the Formula One grid and what better place to progress than Ferrari?

The Force India driver may well be British, but unsurprisingly with a name like ‘Di Resta’ he does also have Italian ancestry in his family.

Born in West Lothian in Scotland he is the cousin of Triple IndyCar Series Champion and three time Indianapolis 500 Winner Dario Franchitti who is also British-Italian.

With an Italian ancestry behind him, Di Resta sees driving for Ferrari as the ultimate aim in his still fledgling career.

‘Ferrari is an ultimate seat that I want to see myself in Formula 1 because of the Italian side of my family. What Ferrari is to Formula 1 is a very special red car when it sits on the grid,’ he told Sky Sports.

Di Resta has enjoyed a good season with the Force India Formula One team this season, regularly scoring points and finishing fourth in Bahrain, matching his best ever finish in F1.

He stands 9th in the Formula One World Championship on 36 points, 13 points clear of team-mate Adrian Sutil.

The Brit has been linked with both Ferrari, due to Felipe Massa once again losing form and Lotus, due to Kimi Raikkonen being linked with the drive at Red Bull for 2014.

But Di Resta remains focussed on the season ahead with Force India before contemplating where his future may be next year.

‘I need to wait and see if the opportunities arise. At the moment it’s about putting yourself in the framework for those drives.’ he concluded.
