Rumour around the paddock suggests that Ferrari’s option clause on Kimi Raikkonen expires today [July 31st].
The 2007 Formula One World Champions current contract with Ferrari expires at the end of the 2015 season, but an option clause in his contract would see the Finn race in 2016 if triggered by Ferrari.
But despite that clause expiring today, Sky Sports have reported that Ferrari will not make a decision on Kimi during the official summer break.
‘Our goal now is to focus on the car, the driver issue can wait, In the summer break, you take a summer break. You go swimming, climbing, mountain biking ? otherwise it is not a break, it is work!’ Ferrari team boss Maurizio Arrivabene said following the Hungarian Grand Prix.
The 35-year-old wants to stay with Ferrari, but if he is axed in favour of Finnish compatriot Valtteri Bottas it is thought that he will once again walk away from Formula One.
