Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone wants to take the F1 circus to Azerbaijan and as soon as next season.

‘We’re having a look to see if we can get it done for next year.’ Bernie told the BBC.

The 83-year-old has held talks over a street circuit race in the capital of Baku.

Baku is the capital and largest city of Azerbaijan, with a population in excess of 2million.

Sitting on the edge of the Caspian Sea, the Inner City of Baku along with the Shirvanshah’s Palace and Maiden Tower are officially UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The move to introduce a new country to Formula One could be connected to the possibility that the Indian Grand Prix, which was omitted from the 2014 calendar for tax reasons, is set to miss out on the schedule again next season.

But there was hope for the race, with Bernie speculating that 2016 could see a return.

‘Probably 2016. They’re gradually getting over all the bureaucracy with the tax position inside the country and the general finance.’

‘It’s never been for next year. We’ve been thinking about 2016 again for them.’
