The second winter test of the 2017 Formula One World Championship came to an end last week.

Mercedes will undoubtedly be happy with their work over the course of their eight days out on the Barcelona track, but it could well be Ferrari who leave the happiest.

Not only have they racked up the miles, but Kimi Raikkonen ended winter testing the quickest, his 1minute 18.634s on day 8 was 0.676s faster than Mercedes best time posted on day 6 by Valterri Bottas.

In fact Ferrari finished the second test with the quickest times on all three of Pirelli’s fastest compounds.

‘They’ve done a fantastic job and I think there’s more to come from them, Their pace has been spectacular, The others look very quick and it looks like we have a good battle on our hands.’ Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton told Sky Sports.

It wasn’t the perfect day though as an electrical glitch did see them in the garage for some time, but they still completed 111laps.

That nudged Ferrari on to 956 laps, only 140 laps shy of Mercedes colossal tally.

‘It was quite positive, the car felt good straight away and that’s always a good sign after the hard work the team has put in over the winter and last year for this car, It’s very early days and for sure we have things to learn and things to try still, you can never have enough testing.

‘But this is what we got and we have to be quite pleased and positive with it and see where we are at the first race.’
Raikkonen told Sky Sports.
