Force India will battle McLaren right to the end says Force India?s Team Principal Vijay Mallya.
In such a tight and captivating drivers championship battle season, it’s easy to overlook the other battles further down the Formula One grid.
One great battle in this seasons F1 constructors championship is the one between Force India and McLaren.
Sergio Perez and Nico Hulkenberg finished seventh and ninth in Singapore, whilst McLaren’s Kevin Magnussen finished tenth with Jenson Button retiring.
That Singapore swing of points pushed Force India six points clear of McLaren into fifth place.
With Ferrari 61-points clear in fourth and Toro Rosso 84-points adrift in seventh, it’s a clear head-to-head battle for fifth place between the two Mercedes powered outfits.
McLaren are continuing to add upgrades to their MP4-29, but Force India also intend to add upgrades to their VJM07 as the season progresses.
?The only reason I?m approving this development right up until the last race – which I never did before in previous seasons ? is because whatever we?re doing now in terms of development can be carried forward into next year?s car.
?If it was full-stop at the end of this season and start again for next year, I may not have bothered to do what I?m doing.
?But because all the development that?s happening as we speak can actually carry forward to 2015, it?s an investment also in next year?s car.? Mallya told Sky Sports.
On the Formula One Constructors Championship battle with McLaren he added: ?I refer to McLaren as ?the great McLaren?. I truly believe that?s a World Championship team, so I?m not going to take them for granted,? I?m going to throw everything I have at it and fight like hell.
?For a team like Force India to be engaged in such a competitive battle with a team like the great McLaren itself says a lot about us and I feel quite proud about it.?
