The Lotus team will continue to monitor driver Romain Grosjean on a daily basis before committing to the Frenchman for next season.

Now that team-mate Kimi Raikkonen’s contract extension has been finalised and announced, attentions in the team have turned to Grosjean and whether or not he will keep his drive for the 2013 championship.

Up until September and more specifically the Belgian Grand Prix, Grosjean’s future looked fairly settled.

Three podium finishes in Bahrain, Canada and Hungary was a good return from a rookie driver.

However his first lap incidents were also a problem and in Belgium, a dangerous crash on the first corner took out Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso amongst others.

Grosjean was given a one-race ban by the Formula One race stewards and he was forced to sit out the Italian Grand Prix.

Since returning he has scored points in Singapore, Korea and India and if he can continue his form it looks like that he will be able to keep his drive with the team.

‘there is the story of his starts and the fact he had a race ban. So we are monitoring it very closely how he is recovering and getting back from this story.’ Lotus boss Eric Boullier told Autosport Magazine.

‘In Korea and India he did a great job, and this is the Romain Grosjean we expected to have. We would be more pleased if he had a better qualifying, but this is racing.

‘So we will monitor it and when we are ready to go for a longer plan we will announce it. We are monitoring it on a day by day basis.’
