Esteban Gutierrez could be set to leave the Haas Formula One team after one season with the newbie team.
The Mexican sat out the 2015 Formula One World Championship season after two seasons with the Sauber team.
He returned to the grid in 2016 as team-mate to Romain Grosjean in the new Haas team.
For a brand new Formula One team Haas have surpassed all expectations put upon them, scoring 28 points and sitting 8th in the Formula One constructors standings ahead of Renault, Manor and Sauber.
All of the teams points have been scored by Grosjean, while Gutierrez has five 11th place finishes.
Haas are expected to retain Grosjean for 2017, but Gutierrez’s future is unknown.
According to the Mexican however he has opportunities to consider away from Haas.
‘There are alternatives we are considering,’ Gutierrez told motorsport.com.
‘In the coming weeks we will make a decision. There are other interesting opportunities that we cannot put aside.’
He however concluded adding: ‘Yes, I would continue with them.’ when asked if Haas was his main priority.
Meanwhile Haas F1 boss Gunther Steiner has played down criticism of the car from Romain Grosjean.
The Frenchman has been particularly vocal about how bad the car has sometimes been.
?You know me, I let people speak, He?s got an opinion. It?s his personality. It?s easy for me to say, ?Romain, don?t say these things any more.? But then you guys have no fun! So why should I kill everybody?s fun?
?I?m not too critical about that. If he decides to be like this, it?s OK. After the race we spoke, he was frustrated, he was *****ed off. I would be, and I am.
‘He got over it, and he?s ready now for the next race. That?s the only thing you can do. Steiner said.
