With rumours surfacing about Mercedes possible interest in four-time Formula One World Champion Sebastian Vettel, Lewis Hamilton is keen to secure a new deal at Mercedes.

The Brit has watched on as Mercedes secured team-mate and Formula One championship leader Nico Rosberg to a new multi-year deal, however the team are yet to discuss new terms with Hamilton’s whose current contract runs until the end of 2015.

Speculation from German media outlet Sport Bild has suggested that Mercedes could be targeting an all German line-up from 2016 onwards, which would see Hamilton ousted following the expiry of his current deal.

2016 coincides with the end of Lewis Hamilton’s current contract with Mercedes, whilst Sebastian Vettel’s contract at Red Bull Racing would have also expired.

However the 2008 Formula One World Champion feels right at home with Mercedes after two years with the team and he believes that he and Mercedes share a desire to agree a long-term agreement beyond 2015.

‘We’ve both shown interest in sitting down and talking, The team know I would like to push to continue and they’ve made it clear they would like to do the same.’

Hamilton might have been best known for his long-term development with McLaren, but throughout that time McLaren’s partner had been Mercedes.

‘I’ve been with Mercedes since I was 13, I very much feel like I have Mercedes imprinted on my chest. It’s very much a family for me.’ he told the BBC.

Speaking directly about Mercedes rumours wanting Vettel he added: ‘If they happen to want someone else that’s the way it is. I’m not going to whinge about it.

‘But at the moment I’m here until the end of next year so it’s not going to be any time soon. But it’s normal. Mercedes is the best and so everyone is going to want to drive a Mercedes.’
