Triple F1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton has played down the tensions amongst the Mercedes team.
The British driver opted to play down tensions between himself and team-mate Nico Rosberg after team boss Toto Wolff told the media that Mercedes could consider dropping one of the pair if issues escalated.
‘We struggle sometimes in winning races on Sunday and having always one upset, And this spills over into the team. It is something that needs to stop.’ Wolff told Motorsport.com.
‘The biggest weakness [within Mercedes] is the dynamic of the relationship between the drivers ? and sometimes between the drivers and the team.’
When asked about those comments Hamilton told the BBC: ‘This side [team-mate tension] is always blown out of proportion. We have had 16 1-2s, so our relationship isn’t really causing any problems.
‘It is not like he has been distracted and not finished high up or vice versa, so I think ultimately it is easy for people to take things for granted. We have both done a great job.
‘We have not caused any problems, and the energy within the team is as high as it is ever going to be. And that is because we do what we do, and how we do it.
‘We are never going to be best friends but somehow we make it work. There are tension moments…but that is the same in any kind of sport I imagine.’
Over the span of the 2014 and 2015 FIA Formula One World Championships there have been 38 Grand Prix.
Hamilton and Rosberg have stood on the top step of the podium 32 times and have completed a perfect one-two finish 23 times.
