1996 Formula One World Champion Damon Hill has backed Kimi Raikkonen to be a success following the Finnish drivers return to Formula One next season.

The 32-year-old 2007 Formula One World Champion will return with the Lotus [Renault] team next season after two years away from the sport.

Raikkonen left Ferrari at the end of the 2009 season and has spent the last couple of seasons racing in the World Rally Championship as well as competing in various forms of NASCAR.

His return to Formula One has brought much excitement to the paddock and Damon Hill believes that while he will have to prove he can rediscover his championship winning form, the Finn is capable of becoming a triple champion by taking further titles.

‘It is great – and good luck to him, He is going to have to show that he has still got it, which he has got a good team to show that in, and he is still young. Hill told Autosport Magazine.

‘He has won a world championship already, and I had only just got into F1 at his age, so he has definitely got a couple of more world championships in him.’

Raikkonen has signed a two-year-deal with the former Renault outfit and joins Romain Grosjean in the new-look team.
