Tonio Liuzzi is enjoying the battle of the newbies at the back of the Formula One grid.

The newbie teams consist of Team Lotus, Virgin Racing and HRT.

Over the past couple of years Team Lotus and Virgin have been ahead of HRT for the majority of races, but Liuzzi hopes that continuing to improve will eventually lead to his team competing with Lotus.

‘We would love to be ahead of Lotus but it is not an easy target, especially if you look at where we started in Australia. But we have half a season to improve and try and achieve a better position in the constructors? championship. We are following the right path and are in the right place.’ Vitantonio Liuzzi told formula1.com.

‘I already consider it a successful season but if we could achieve our biggest target of finishing 10th in the constructors championship, then that would be perfect. But we have to be realistic and continue pushing to show that we are competitive. We have to improve our pace compared to the leaders from now until the end of the season.’

Only time will tell on how the new teams develop, but just the fact that they all remain on the grid has already proved many people wrong!
