Lewis Hamilton implied that he needed to ?regain the confidence? of his F1 team recently, however Mercedes insist that they have full confidence in him anyway.

Hamilton made the comments ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix, a race in which he finished third to equal his best finish of the season to date.

Mercedes motorsport chief Toto Wolff has disputed the 28-year-olds comments and maintains his, and the teams’ belief, that performances will continue to come from him in the months and years ahead. He said: ‘I don’t have that feeling we lack confidence in him.

‘I think we will see great races from Lewis. I’ve no doubt about that.’

As a team Mercedes do have a win this season, this was at Monaco when Nico Rosberg won but Hamilton still holds a commanding 20-point lead over his teammate with Wolf of the opinion that Hamilton is ?getting to grips? with his new team, and teammate, all the time.

In the pair Wolf insists the team have a good team that will continue to improve with tweaks to the car likely to bring further improvement as the season goes on with the brake issue, that Hamilton in particular has been having, likely to be improved yet further in time for the British Grand Prix at the end of the month.
