Narain Karthikeyan remains hopeful that he can return to Formula One in 2012.

After five years of waiting for his return to Formula One last season, the Indian driver eventually lost his seat with the HRT team part way through the 2011 season, when HRT favoured Australian rookie Daniel Ricciardo.

He regained his seat for the Indian Grand Prix, but that was his last appearance for the team in 2011.

Pedro de la Rosa has now joined the team and a restructure of the team has also seen the announcement of new team principal Luis Perez-Sala.

One spot remains available within the team and Karthikeyan hopes he can be the man to fill it.

‘I had a good Indian Grand Prix and the intention is to see what opportunities are available in Formula One and see how we can conclude something,’ Narain Karthikeyan told Sky Sports.

‘I’m not dealing with it directly. So there are people who are liaising on behalf of me.’

The only other available drive for 2012 is with the Williams Team, but it is fully expected that Adrian Sutil will now join them after he was replaced by Nico Hulkenberg at Force India.
