Triple Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton’s disappointing start to the 2016 season is set to continue in China.

Mercedes have announced that after just two races, the Brit requires a new gearbox and as they are suppose to last six grand prix, he will take a five place grid penalty in Shanghai.

‘Naturally when you arrive in Shanghai and find out you’re already going to be starting five places behind wherever I qualify is a kick in the goonies, but you just take it. Challenge is another opportunity to arise, rather than looking at the glass half empty, look at it half full.’ Hamilton told Sky Sports.

Hamilton’s gearbox suffered the damage during the Bahrain Grand Prix.

Whilst this wasn’t a result of the first corner collision, Mercedes have not been forthcoming with how the damage has occurred.

Could this be a frailty in Mercedes otherwise bullet proof and reliable Silver Arrow? And can Ferrari take advantage of Hamilton having to fight his way back to the front?
