Korea dropped for 2015

Just as quickly as it was appeared on the 2015 Formula One World Championship schedule, Korea has now disappeared.

The move sees the F1 calendar drop back down to 20 races with the addition of Mexico to last seasons tour.

Mexico’s inclusion in the FIA Formula One World Championship calendar for 2015 had been widely expected.

The Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City previously hosted F1 between 1963-1970 and 1986-1992. But has not hosted F1 at any point the preceding 22-years.

However the inclusion of South Korea was surprise to many.

The Korean Grand Prix was held at the Korea International Circuit, in Yeongam between 2010-2013 but was dropped for last season due to financial issues, financial issues which have not been resolved.

However Formula One politics played its part in its inclusion with Renault and Red Bull Racing pushing for a 21-race calendar so that engine manufacturers could continue to use five engines in 2015, rather than the four which is demanded in the regulations.

So with pressure from Red Bull, Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone had Korea added to the calendar, but with the race not financially viable it has subsequently been removed.
