Daniil Kvyat can become Formula One World Champion according to his former team boss Franz Tost.
The 21-year-old Russian made his debut in Formula One two years ago when he took to the track for the first time at the 2014 Australian Grand Prix for Toro Rosso.
He went on to impress during the opening races of that season, finishing in the points in three of the first four rounds of the season.
Kvyat eventually scored 8 points in his debut season but was outscored by then team-mate Jean-Eric Vergne.
But when Sebastian Vettel jumped ship from Red Bull Racing to Ferrari, Red Bull opted for Kvyat to be promoted to the main sister team for 2015.
Once again he impressed finishing in the points on 14 occasions from 19 races with a personal best finish of 2nd at Hungary.
It’s likely to be a season of transition for Red Bull, but another season where Kvyat can impress and show his future championship credentials.
‘If I would be team principal of an absolutely top team, I would take him for 2017 immediately, Because in 2017 he will be ready to win races and he will also be ready to fight for the championship, I am convinced of that. Toro Rosso team principal Franz Tost told motorsport.com.
‘He has all the ingredients you need to win a race or a championship, Like he did in GP3, because he won the races and he won the championship at the end of the season, which is much more difficult than if everything is clear from the middle of the season onwards.
‘He got everything together and he was, from the mental side, strong enough to do it.
‘And therefore, I am convinced he can do the same in Formula 1.’
