Lewis Hamilton has won the 2015 Formula One World Championship by winning the United States Grand Prix.

The British driver has now taken his third world drivers title, joining Sir Jackie Stewart as the only other British driver to win three titles.

Hamilton however does become the only British driver in history to claim back-to-back titles.

His victory also takes him to 43 wins, 1 clear of Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel as the third most successful driver in Formula One history behind Michael Schumacher [91] and Alain Prost [51].

Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg finished in second place and refused to celebrate on the podium with Hamilton, immediately handing his champagne to Mercedes team-boss Paddy Lowe whilst the German stood to the side as the others sprayed champagne in celebration.

During the post-race interview Rosberg bemoaned Hamilton’s ‘aggressive’ move into the first corner which dropped Rosberg down from first to fourth on the first lap.
