Whilst many believe that Daniel Ricciardo has simply out performed Red Bull team-mate Sebastian Vettel, his team boss believes Vettel has just suffered some bad luck.
The German quadruple Formula One World Champion is used to not only being the dominant force amongst the Red Bull Racing garage, but also amongst the entire F1 paddock.
But this season Vettel has found his Red Bull wings clipped.
Not many would have predicted the impact that Daniel Ricciardo would have had on the team after he stepped in to replace the retired Mark Webber.
Many had questioned just how hard Mark Webber had pushed Vettel and many had suggested that in time Ricciardo would be a much bigger threat that Webber to Vettel’s dominance.
But no-one would have predicted just how quickly the power could turn.
From the opening weekend in Australia, Ricciardo has had the upper hand on his illustrious team-mate, his first career podium finish at his home Grand Prix might have been cruelly snatched away following a disqualification, but Ricciardo has had bigger races to celebrate.
Two Grand Prix victories have come for Ricciardo in Canada and Hungary, whilst Vettel’s best finish has been third in Malaysia and Canada.
Ricciardo now holds a 43 point lead over Vettel heading into the summer break, but Red Bull team principal Christian Horner believes Vettel will recover.
?He deserves a well-earned break, take a bit of time out, and he?ll come back strong,? Horner said to Sky Sports.
?Unfortunately up until [Hungarian race] issues, this weekend had been a very strong weekend for him. Friday he was quick and Saturday he was fantastic in qualifying ? he was just unlucky in the race.
?That?s the way his luck?s gone the first half of the year but it can change very quickly.?
