McLaren have delayed their announcement on their driver line-up for 2014 and beyond.

It isn’t entirely clear why however.

McLaren Team Principal Martin Whitmarsh has indicated that the team would like to retain both Jenson Button and Sergio Perez for next season and Jenson Button has clearly stated that he sees his future at McLaren.

Some had speculated that a deal with Button had already been concluded and that the hold-up was on the side of Sergio Perez, with McLaren wanting to announce both drivers at the same time.

Then Ferrari’s Felipe Massa revealed that he had held talks with McLaren, although he appeared to indicate that there wasn’t much hope to take from those talks seemingly more positive about a potential move to Lotus.

So why the delay? If all parties are happy why not announce it?

‘I can’t tell you when, but obviously it won’t be too much further now when I hope we’ll be able to clarify what’s going on,’ McLaren’s Managing Director Jonathan Neale told Sky Sports.

‘Right at the moment we’re focused on our preparations for this weekend, making sure that we wring every bit of learning out of the season and prepare well for next year.

‘So that is our priority at the moment. That’s not to say the drivers are a second priority, but when we have something to say we will let you know.’
