Honda are supplying engines to the McLaren team from next season, with rumours claiming that this arrangement could be for a little more.

It was being claimed that Honda could even be looking to acquire some shares that are held by Bahrain’s Mumtalakat Holding Company meaning that they wanted to be ‘a stake’ in the F1 side too.

This has been played down though.

A statement issued by the McLaren team this week read: ‘Contrary to recent media reports, Honda has informed us that it has no intention to buy into McLaren.

‘All of Honda’s focus is on the development of its new Formula 1 power unit.’

Honda supplied engines to McLaren in the late 1980s to early 1990s.
