After clinching Mercedes first Formula One drivers title since Fangio, Lewis Hamilton is set to sit down with the team and discuss a new deal.
The newly crowned 2014 Formula One World Champion is of course still contracted to Mercedes AMG after signing a three-year-deal after he opted to leave McLaren.
Mercedes wrapped up a new contract with team-mate Nico Rosberg earlier in the season, but Mercedes and Hamilton opted against discussing new terms in the midst of a fierce title battle.
But with the destiny of the Formula One World Championship now decided and Lewis Hamilton becoming the first multiple British Formula One World Champion in forty years talks over a new deal can now commence.
‘I’ve been a part of Mercedes since I was 13, so it’s a natural progression.
‘During the season is not the time to really talk about things, and you start assessing and discussing the future generally in the last year of your contract.
‘But we’re happy with where we are and what we’ve achieved together. Toto [Wolff] was just saying in the coming weeks we’ll sit down and hopefully it will be a simple process to go through – a formality.’ Hamilton told Sky Sports.
Mercedes Executive Director Wolff added: ‘We would love Lewis to stay in the team. He has been an incredible part in the development and rise of the team and we want to continue with both of them [Hamilton and Rosberg],’
