Mercedes AMG’s one-two finish at the inaugural Russian Grand Prix clinched the Formula One constructors title.

The German Silver Arrows in truth only needed to take 25-points to be certain over clinching the championship ahead of defending four-time champions Red Bull Racing.

So when Britain’s Lewis Hamilton crossed the line to win the first race in Russia, the Mercedes team could already celebrate.

The fact that team-mate and German Nico Rosberg crossed the line in second place to take a one-two finish made the result even sweeter for the team.

”It was a good day and an amazing weekend. Firstly I’m so proud to have contributed to the work of this great team, to get the first Constructors’ Championship for Mercedes-Benz is a huge achievement. Massive congratulations to the guys back in the UK and Germany, it’s history for us.’ Hamilton told formula1.com after taking his ninth race victory of the season.

Nico Rosberg, who is now 17 points behind in the race for the 2014 Formula One drivers world championship said: ‘We are World Champions! I feel so happy for the team and the whole Mercedes-Benz family, today we made history.

Speaking to the BBC Head of Mercedes-Benz Motorsport Toto Wolff said: ‘The foundations of this success were built by Ross [Brawn] and he played such an important role in the team to prepare this success, We have been able to continue that work – making the right decisions, putting the right resources in place and putting the team on an upward slope; today’s achievement is the result of that.

‘Well done to every single member of the team in the UK and Germany for this world championship.’
