More drivers confirmed for Silverstone test

Following on from the news of who would be driving for Lotus, Williams and Sauber over the next three days at Silverstone, other teams have now publicly confirmed their schedule.

Despite the changes by the FIA for this young drivers test at Silverstone, Ferrari have made few alterations to their schedule opting to concentrate on the technical development of the car rather than testing Pirelli tyres.

26-year-old Italian Davide Rigon who currently drives in the Blancpain sportscar series, will drive the Ferrari over the course of Wednesday, Thursday and Friday morning. Felipe Massa will then run a tyre test session on Friday afternoon.

Fernando Alonso will not be involved in the test.

Caterham will also hand the majority of their running to young drivers, with Caterham reserve Alexander Rossi taking today’s testing schedule before Caterham racing academy member Will Stevens will take over on Thursday.

Caterham’s race drivers Giedo van der Garde and Charles Pic will share the Friday session as attentions will then turn to tyre testing.

Whilst Ferrari and Caterham concentrate on technical development, Force India have confirmed that they’re more focussed on the Pirelli testing and so have announced that both Paul di Resta and Adrian Sutil will be behind the wheel over the course of the sessions. British GP2 racer James Calado will also get a run out, however they have not set out their schedule and instead will opt to take each-day as it comes.

In contrast Red Bull and Toro Rosso have taken completely different approaches to the young driver test, in all, eight drivers will get behind the wheel of either the Red Bull or the Toro Rosso STR8.

All the morning and afternoon schedules have been mapped out across both teams with Daniel Ricciardo and Carlos Sainz Junior pulling double duty with test sessions in both cars.

Antonio Felix da Costa will drive the Red Bull car on Wednesday morning before handing it over to Toro Rosso driver Daniel Ricciardo, who will get his chance to audition to replace Mark Webber next season.

Venezuelan GP2 driver Johnny Cecotto will get his chance for Toro Rosso today, whilst tomorrow morning will be the turn of Carlos Sainz’s 19-year-old son Carlos Sainz Junior.

Daniel Ricciardo will then get back into the seat for Toro Rosso on Thursday afternoon, while Antonio Felix da Costa will have another morning session before, Mark Webber takes his turn during Thursday afternoon’s session.

Jean-Eric Vergne will take the Friday morning session for Toro Rosso, while Carlos Sainz Junior will switch the Toro Rosso for the Red Bull.

19-year old Russian GP3 driver Daniil Kvyat will get his first taste of F1 on Friday afternoon for Toro Rosso, while three-time F1 World Champion Sebastian Vettel will complete Red Bull’s testing schedule.
