In the wonderful world of Formula One, what-if stories often amalgamate into additional hypothetical stories.
Currently there is one big story in Formula One and that involved the current reigning Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton.
The two-time F1 title holder is out-of-contract with Mercedes at the end of this season. The British driver already looks a hot favourite to win the title again in 2015, a landmark victory taking him to three titles.
But where will he be? A deal with Mercedes is suppose to be complete and ready to sign, the problem is, Hamilton appears reluctant to pick up a pen.
This has led to the rumour mill suggesting that he could be looking for a move to Ferrari.
The Italians have come on strong this season and they could have an opening as they are stalling on extending Kimi Raikkonen’s contract.
So what does all this have to do with Fernando Alonso?
According to some suggestions, he could be Hamilton’s replacement at Mercedes, should Hamilton leave for Ferrari.
However McLaren team boss Ron Dennis has moved to deny that the Spaniard has a clause in his contract which would enable him to leave McLaren Honda for Mercedes in 2016.
?He has a straight three-year contract with us, with no options, It?s as simple as that. That?s what we wanted to offer him, and that?s what he wanted to sign. I can?t make it plainer than that, can I?? Dennis told the official F1 website.
Dennis went on to praise former two-time Formula One World Champion Fernando Alonso and declared that McLaren Honda will return to the front of the grid in the near future.
‘The Fernando we?re working with today, now, is a fantastically motivated and inspirational man. He?s as quick as ever, as competitive as ever, more experienced than ever, more expert than ever, and he combines those traits with an infectious energy and enthusiasm.
?We?ll win again, we?ll dominate again, and we?ll do that together, with Fernando front and central. It?ll be a wonderful culmination to his glittering career.?
