Could the Nurburgring be set to return to the FIA Formula One World Championship calendar for the first time in six years?
The Nurburgring is one of the famous old circuits of the F1 calendar, having hosted 40 Grand Prix since 1951.
But it hasn’t hosted a race since 2013 when financial troubles hit German motorsport.
The Hockenheimring has since hosted the race in 2014 and 2016 and once again will be hosting the German Grand Prix this season.
But Nurburgring would like to be added in time for the 2019 calendar.
‘We really would appreciate to have the Formula 1 back at the Nurburgring in 2019, This will only be possible if we take meaningful economic surrounding conditions into consideration. Nurburgring chief executive officer Mirco Markfort told motorsport.com.
‘We are able to confirm that there had been conversations with the owner of the Formula 1, Liberty Media.’
