Esteban Ocon believes he could put himself in contention for a drive with Mercedes in 2019.
All seats ahead of the 2018 Formula One World Championship have been tied up, with one exception at Williams.
But in 2019 that certainly is not the case.
At this point in time, there are two seats open at Mercedes. Four-time Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton is widely expected to fill one of those seats.
The second is Valterri Bottas’ to lose, but his second half form during 2017 has put the Finn under pressure.
Red Bull Racing driver Daniel Ricciardo is out-of-contract come the end of 2018 and the Australian is many peoples favourite for the seat.
But Force India driver Esteban Ocon believes he could put himself in contention with a strong drive in 2018.
‘2019 is going to pretty open for everyone. Ocon told Sky Sports.
‘I think there are going to be a lot of movements so if you do a strong job and a good season, then there will be opportunities there.
‘I want to start the season strongly with the experience I have gained this year, and then we’ll see.’
Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff has previously praised the Frenchman as a ‘superstar of the future’.
