Paddy Lowe has left Mercedes and is all set for a new challenge at Williams.

Back in December on stage at the Autosport Awards, then Mercedes executive director Paddy Lowe was quoted by as saying: ?I?ve been with Mercedes for 22 years now, either working for them or with them, so I have got no reason to see why that should change. It is going very well.

He was discussing his contract situation with Mercedes where he added: ‘Toto and I had a discussion that, let?s wait until the end of the season and get that out of the way, and we will take it from there.?

Within a week Paddy Lowe was being sensationally tipped with a move to Williams to become the team boss there, with former Ferrari technical director James Allison making the move to Mercedes.

Over the Christmas and New Year period things understandably went quiet, but it was presumed that everything had been wrapped up in that regard and all that was left was the official announcement and that came on Tuesday.

‘I have had a fantastically successful and enjoyable three and a half years at Mercedes working with an incredible team of people, I am now looking forward to a new challenge and wish everyone well at Mercedes.’ Lowe told Sky Sports.

Mercedes motosport boss Toto Wolff added: ‘Paddy has played an important part in our success during the past three and a half years and we thank him for his contribution to this significant chapter in Mercedes’ motorsport history,’

Lowe is yet to sign a deal with Williams and is currently formally on gardening leave.
