Formula One’s official tyre manufacturer Pirelli have confirmed that the soft tyre will not be used in Bahrain.
The Italian tyre manufacturer had previously planned to run the controversial soft compound tyre in Bahrain, but have since had a re-think and have opted against the idea.
The decision was made following the Malaysian Grand Prix, while the fact that the longest distance anyone made the soft tyre last in China being seven laps only reinforced their decision.
‘Bahrain is one of the most demanding tracks because of high ambient and track temperatures,’ said Pirelli’s motorsport director Paul Hembery to the BBC.
Tyre degradation is still expected to play a major part in this weekends Bahrain race with around three pit-stops expected using the two medium and hard tyre compounds.
