The 2016 Formula One World Championship will hopefully see Mercedes and Ferrari go head-to-head on track.
The development of Ferrari throughout 2015 showed a lot of potential for the upcoming season and many believe that the Italian outfit will have closed the gap to Mercedes, if not surpassing them.
That should mean some great action on track as reigning champ Lewis Hamilton attempts to take his fourth Formula One title, whilst holding team-mate Nico Rosberg and Ferrari duo Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen at bay.
The thought of Hamilton and Vettel, two men who hold seven titles between them is exciting and if Ferrari are truly competitive it will offer a more significant challenge than Rosberg over the course of a 21-race season.
‘Lewis should be the favourite for the championship again, but what would be good for Formula 1 is a big fight between Lewis and Nico and maybe Vettel in the middle,’ Alain Prost a former four-time Formula One champion told Sky Sports.
Prost however isn’t convinced Ferrari will have closed the gap enough: ‘Has [Ferrari] been able to catch up with Mercedes? I don’t think they can do it completely.’
So what of the fight in Mercedes? ‘The fight between Lewis and Nico is going to be interesting because the end of last year was really amazing with Nico’s performance, But it was quite tight, and I’m sure Lewis will come back very hungry to be champion again.’
