With the exception of Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg, the big winners in China were Red Bull Racing.
They may well not have got the result they wanted with a third place finish from Daniil Kvyat, but they proved that they have closed the gap to Ferrari and that bodes well for the future.
‘Mercedes are still a step ahead, but we’re snapping at the ankles of Ferrari, Both our cars beat one of them and Sebastian Vettel wasn’t so far down the road. Red Bull team principal Christian Horner told motorsport.com.
Daniel Ricciardo had earlier led the race after beating Nico Rosberg away from the line after starting on the front row of the grid.
The Australian unfortunately then suffered a tyre blow out as he was leading the race, the safety car then also fell at the wrong time for him ending any hopes of a potential podium finish.
‘A clean race from Ricciardo would have been seriously competitive. It’s been a really positive weekend to only give one point away from Ferrari, we didn’t expect that coming into this weekend.
‘A lot of positives, and we know with what’s in the pipeline that’ll put us that much closer.’
