Just like the Mercedes team, Renault had a poor outing in Singapore.

In fact they struggled even more than Mercedes GP did, with both Bruno Senna and Vitaly Petrov struggling all weekend.

That poor performance that was shown during the practice sessions and qualifying on Friday and Saturday was even more evident during the race on Sunday, with both cars being lapped twice by Red Bull, who are powered by Renault.

Senna ended up 15th and Petrov finished 17th to end a forgettable weekend for the team.

?We entered the race knowing that our pace would be poor and our tyre degradation high – this is what we had seen on Friday and Saturday, There is always a bit of you that hopes, irrationally, that it might be different in the race, but as events showed, free practice and qualifying were accurate portents of the grim two hours that unfolded on Sunday. Renault technical director James Allison told their official website.

He added: ?Anybody can spot that we have suffered very poor performance at Monaco, Hungary and Singapore. The simplest explanation is that there is not enough downforce in low-speed corners.’

But the positive that came from the race was that at least they know what the issue was and the team will be able to learn from that going forward.

Allison believes that this is down to Renault’s forward-facing exhausts.

Obviously a lot of technical jargon explaining the problem was thrown around, but the basics of it was that the car did not create enough rear downforce to remain competitive in Singapore and the same goes for the other slower speed tracks.

So just like Mercedes then, Renault will also be looking to improve on results at the faster tracks at Japan and Korea.

If their performances fail to improve however, they could be at risk of losing their current Formula 1 constructors world championship spot of fifth to Force India, who have recently scored well with Paul di Resta finishing sixth in Singapore.

  • not been great so far has it? Must admit, being a BMW man, I’m not that bothered! Lets face it, they are all in the wake of Red Bull at the moment anyway!
