The ever smiling Daniel Ricciardo is probably the most upbeat driver on the Formula One grid.

He was a fan favourite during his time at Toro Rosso due to his infectious positivity and when he moved to Red Bull Racing his brand grew ever larger.

Three Grand Prix victories and regularly beating four-time Formula One World Champion team-mate Sebastian Vettel, proved the Australian’s potential.

But now despite sitting in a struggling car, Ricciardo remains as positive as ever.

He might have already blown up three Renault engines, using his fourth in Barcelona, when four are suppose to last an entire season.

He might have only had a highest finish of sixth, once at his home Grand Prix in Melbourne and repeated in Bahrain.

But still, the promise of upgrades both to the car and the engine leave him thinking that he can battle for podiums in the near future.

?We?re not on the pace of the Mercedes and Ferrari, They?re our target for now; even Williams have been a bit quicker so far, so we need to crack into the top five, for sure, and once we?re there look towards the top three and obviously get back on the podium.

?We?ll have some aerodynamic updates in Barcelona and we?re hoping for a bit more from the engine as well, a bit more power. I think these are the small steps which are going to keep getting us closer and closer.?
he told Sky Sports.

Ricciardo even managed to put a positive spin on being beaten by his former team-mate now he is at Ferrari.

?At the end of last season, I think we were clearly in front of Ferrari but they?ve made a really big step in the off-season, They?ve been the biggest movers so far. For us it?s good to see and we know that a big step like that is possible.?
