Despite Mercedes AMG’s dominance during the 2014 Formula One World Championship, there still remains one outside chance that neither Nico Rosberg or Lewis Hamilton will take the title.

Daniel Ricciardo, in his first season with Red Bull has been in fine form this season.

The Australian took his third Grand Prix victory of his career and season in Belgium, closing the gap to Nico Rosberg to 64 points, whilst he trails Lewis Hamilton by 35 points.

It’s unlikely Ricciardo can have any affect on the drivers title, but whilst he remains in touching distance and mechanical issues or further incidents between the duelling team-mates would leave Ricciardo in with a slight chance of an upset.

‘If I’m within 50 points coming into Abu Dhabi, then yes, but there’s still a few races to go.’ Ricciardo told theBBC.

‘While it’s still mathematically possible, we’ll keep fighting,’

Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner added: ‘It is remarkable Daniel has won only one less race than Rosberg this year,’

‘He is doing a phenomenal job at the moment and deserved his victory.

‘Everything we see of him is incredibly calm, in control and he is obviously marking himself out as a clear championship contender.’
