The Sauber team are planning a large upgrade package for the car this weekend in Barcelona.

Sauber have enjoyed a good start to the season, both drivers Kamui Kobayashi and Sergio Perez have impressed in the opening rounds of the 2011 season.

A disqualification in Australia may have left the team with just 8 world championship points in this seasons constructors’ world championship, but their overall performance has given the team the confidence to continue to battle for a top 6 finish ahead of mid-pack teams such as Toro Rosso, Force India and Williams.

‘We’ll have a new, quite significant aero package on the car, which will be a completely new front wing, updates to the front and rear brake ducts, new bodywork, new devices around the floor leading edge and under the chassis, and we’ll be testing the new exhaust system again. Sauber Technical director James Key told Autosport Magazine.

‘We’ll also be continuing our work on the mechanical update we had in Istanbul, which proved to be positive. So it will be interesting to see how this works. If it works well it should give us a good few tenths of a second improvement in lap time. Our goal is to continue our good race form, to try to improve qualifying and finish as high in the points as possible.’

Kamui Kobayashi beat Ferrari’s Felipe Massa in Turkey for 10th spot and crucially one World championship point a little over a week ago, beating the Brazilian by just under two seconds.
