Michael Schumacher remains ‘in the process’ of coming out of his medically-induced coma, two weeks on from when the process began.

The seven-time Formula One World Champion has been in a coma since he suffered a severe head injury skiing on Sunday 29th December 2013.

Over the past couple of months, Schumacher has undergone two operations on his brain and missed his 45th birthday.

The former Jordan, Benetton, Ferrari and Mercedes driver has remained at the French hospital in Grenoble throughout his treatment.

There has not been an update from the doctors at Grenoble since early January when they confirmed the news of his two operations, the first was to ease the pressure on his brain, with the second procedure removing a large haematoma from the left-hand side of Schumacher’s brain.

Instead the job of updating his millions of fans around the world has fallen on the shoulders of Schumacher’s manager Sabine Kehm who has released brief statements, usually after media have speculated about his health.

This week reports in Germany had speculated that Schumacher had contracted pneumonia, however there was no mention of this in the latest official statement.

‘Michael’s family would like to again express their sincere thanks for the continuous sympathy coming from all over the world. The good wishes they receive help the family and, we are convinced they also help Michael, who still is in a waking up process,’ the statement said.

‘As often in such situation, no day is like the next. The family is thankful for one’s understanding that they would not wish to disclose medical details in order to protect Michael’s privacy. As assured from the beginning we will continue to communicate any decisive new information on Michael’s health state. We are aware that the wake up phase can take a long time.

‘The family continues to strongly believe in Michael’s recovery and place all their trust in the doctors, nurses and nursing auxiliaries team. The important thing is not the speed of the recovery but that Michael’s healing process progresses in a continuous and controlled way.’

The thoughts of VitalF1 remain with Schumacher and his family and friends.
