The pendulum in the 2016 Formula One World Championship has swung one way and then the other.

After starting the 2016 season in sensational form, quickly pulling out a 43 point lead, Nico Rosberg looked set to cruise to his first Formula One World Championship.

However triple Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton battled back and not only caught his Mercedes team-mate, but overtook him ahead of the summer break.

Since those few weeks off the pendulum has swung back in Rosberg’s favour, with Hamilton battling against reliability issues at the start of the season forcing him to take grid penalties and starting last and fresh new reliability issues compromising his race weekend.

In Singapore that led to Rosberg re-taking the lead in the championship, however the Brit was magnanimous in defeat.

‘Big congratulations to Nico, he drove fantastically well all weekend and fully deserved the win,’ Hamilton told Sky Sports.

On his own Grand Prix weekend he said: ‘I feel like I did everything I could [finishing third],’

‘A very trying weekend, these ones come along sometimes and you just have to take it on the chin.’

Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff elaborated by adding: ‘He started on the back foot by not having enough laps [in free practice 2], He couldn’t really double check the set-up, he wasn’t happy with the set-up, the car wasn’t like it was. He got off the start well but when the brake temps kicked in it took him a while to manage them. It was just a bad weekend for him.’
