The start that McLaren have experienced to the F1 season has been among the worst that they have had.
Thus far Jenson Button and Sergio Perez are to manage a podium finish.
Sporting director Sam Michael has gone as far as saying they are at ?the bottom of the trough? but feels ?small steps? in the right direction are being made: ‘When you’re at the bottom of a trough it is important to see progress.
‘We are making small steps in the right direction.’
A mere 37-points combined by the two McLaren drivers is already a mammoth 70-points less than Championship leader Sebastian Vettel!
Improvement in performance, and positioning has been seen recently, and Canada has been kind to McLaren over the years with the team winning this Grand Prix 13-times, and that includes the previous three.
Michael knows that McLaren don’t head to Montreal with ?the winning package? but with these forward steps being made, and the success previously seen in Canada he’s hopeful of a decent outcome, adding: ‘Overall, Canada has been a pretty good circuit for McLaren.
‘We’ve won there the last three races, but this time around we’re not going to set the world alight simply because we are going to Canada.
‘While we won’t be heading to Montreal with a winning package, we’re making steady progress, and there’s always that added motivation you can pull off a surprising result at this race.’
I think it’s fair to say that McLaren’s winning run at Montreal will be coming to an end but further moves from the ?trough? would be definitely accepted come the end of the weekend!
