In February last year Force India driver Adrian Sutil was found guilty of assaulting Lotus team co-owner Eric Lux.

The then 29-year-old German driver was found guilty of bodily harm after the Munich court heard that Sutil had attacked Lux with a champagne glass during a fight in a Shanghai nightclub, while he was out celebrating with Lewis Hamilton following the Brits victory at the 2011 Formula One Chinese Grand Prix.

Lux received neck injuries during the fight, however Sutil pleaded that he never intended to hurt Lux.

During the trial then McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton didn’t give evidence in court and the pair haven’t spoken since.

‘I haven’t spoken to him. I have no relationship with him. We had no contact last year.’ Sutil told Sky Sports.

However Hamilton has said that he is pleased his former friend has returned to the Formula One grid and is hopeful of a reconciliation.

‘I emailed him a couple of times and I emailed him a while ago saying that I heard that he could get the seat and that I hoped he would because he deserved it.

‘I also emailed him on the way here as soon as I found out, saying congratulations, and that I was happy for him. I haven’t heard back from him but I’m sure at some stage we will get to talk.

‘I’m really looking forward to seeing him, I think it’s a great opportunity for him, I really, really wish him well for the year and in the messages I sent I said to him that I hope he goes out there and proves it was the right decision.’
Hamilton concluded.

Sutil was given an 18-month suspended sentence by the court and was fined 200,000 euros, which was reportedly set to be given to charity.
